Oh I’m exhausted after reading this! My brain hurts. Tyler Durden Saved My Life by Adam Kirkman killed my head. Gosh, where to begin…Let’s start with the good stuff. So, I must say that this book is impeccably written save for the typical typo or little booboo. This is the predominant reason why this piece received the rating that it did. If I’d based my rating on story alone, I don’t even want to say what I’d have given it.
Actually, I need to stop. No, I didn’t like this book. However, I truly don’t feel as though I was the demographic that Kirkman was shooting for. I think if I’d been a bigger movie fan – specifically Fight Club – I might have really enjoyed AND understood this book. There are plenty of movie references made that I felt fly right over my head. I either hadn’t seen the movie or not well enough to really get what was being discussed.
I’ll make my point about the movie references by telling you about a conversation I had with best friend during a break from reading. I was telling him how frustrated I was with the book because I just didn’t get all these movie references. He asked me to read him one and I did. He absolutely died laughing. So, I guess it’s funny to some people for certain. Suffice it to say that my best friend immediately added it to his TBR list. I had to be impressed because he has great taste usually, so that definitely lifted my opinion of this book.
I guess it’s a mixed bag of good over here when it comes to this book. The writing is almost perfection. The storyline is appreciated by a certain group of individuals. And I’m just glad it’s over with. Read at your own risk.
